Carme Riera Guilera (born 12 January 1948) is a famous Spanish writer and professor. She writes exciting novels, short stories, and essays. She has also created scripts for radio and television. Carme Riera is a professor of Spanish literature at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
She was born in Palma, an island in Spain. She went to school there and later moved to Barcelona in 1965. In Barcelona, she studied Spanish language and literature at the university. She finished her studies in 1970.
Carme Riera writes in two languages: Catalan and Spanish. Sometimes, she even translates her own books from one language to the other. She lives in Barcelona today.
One of her most famous books is the historical novel Dins el darrer blau (1994). This book won many awards. It was the first novel written in Catalan to win the National Prize for Narrative from the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
In 2012, Carme Riera was chosen to be a member of the Real Academia Española. This is a very important group that looks after the Spanish language. She officially joined in 2013.

Awards She Has Won
