Valera is a lively city in Trujillo State in Venezuela. It is located right between two rivers: the Momboy and the Motatán. Since 2013, José Karkom has been the mayor of Valera.
Many people from different countries live here. You'll find communities from Italy, Portugal, China, Colombia, and Spain. Valera is also a place for learning. It has several universities, like the Universidad Valle del Momboy.

Valera is known as "The City of the Seven Hills." It is also called "The Bride of Venezuela." The city sits at an elevation of 650 meters (about 2,133 feet) above sea level. In 2011, over 135,000 people lived in Valera.
Valera's Economy: A Busy Hub
Valera is the main business center for Trujillo State. It is also a key entry point to the Andes mountains region of Venezuela. The city has many active businesses and a skilled workforce.
As a major economic center, Valera helps distribute farm products across Venezuela. Important crops grown here include sugarcane, cacao, coffee, fruits, and grains. Making flour is a big industry in Valera. This area has traditionally provided about a quarter of Venezuela's wheat.
Valera has modern shopping centers like Plaza Mall and Las Acacias. It also has cultural spots like the Ateneo. You can find hotels, wide avenues, and parks. The city has a Park of Illustrious people and an Agricultural Fair Park.
The History of Valera
Valera gets its name from a person named Marcos Valera. The exact date the city was founded is not completely clear. Many historians believe it was founded on August 25, 1811. Other historians suggest it was in 1817. This was on land owned by Doña Mercedes Diaz de Teran and Dr. Gabriel Briceno.
Valera's location is perfect for business and industry. It is a meeting point for important travel routes. These routes connect cities like Mérida, Maracaibo, Caracas, and San Cristóbal.
Valera's Climate: Warm and Wet
Valera has a tropical savanna climate. This means it has warm temperatures all year round. It also gets a good amount of rain.
The rainy season usually lasts from April to November. During these months, there is a lot of rainfall. The dry season is from December to March. In these months, there is much less rain.

The city has three daily newspapers: the Diario de Los Andes, Todo Primicias, and the Diario El Tiempo. There are also many radio stations, like Angel FM 93.7. Valera even has its own car magazine called Cars Trujillo.
For television, Valera has three local channels:
- Plus TV (on UHF channel 48 and cable channel 7)
- Come TV (on cable channel 8)
- TV Andes (still being tested, on channel 16 and cable channel 10)
You can also watch many international channels through Directv and Intercable.
Getting Around: Transport Options
Valera has a national airport called Dr. Antonio Nicolás Briceño Airport. It has a 2,000-meter (about 6,560-foot) runway. This airport connects the region to Caracas, the capital city.
Sports in Valera
Valera is home to Trujillanos FC. This is a first-division soccer club in the Venezuelan soccer league. Their home stadium is the José Alberto Pérez Complex.
Famous People from Valera
- José Antonio Abreu (1939–2018): He was a famous orchestra conductor, pianist, and educator. He also worked as an economist, activist, and politician.
- Luis Matos (born 2002): He is a baseball outfielder who plays for the San Francisco Giants.
- José Manuel Pirela (born 1989): He is a baseball second baseman and outfielder. He has played for the Philadelphia Phillies.
