Valeri Ramshukhovich Bganba (Russian: Валерий Рамшухович Бганба) was born on August 26, 1954. He is a politician from Abkhazia. He has held several important jobs in his country's government.
Mr. Bganba served as the Prime Minister of Abkhazia from 2018 to 2020. He was also the acting President of Abkhazia for a short time in 2020. Before these roles, he was the Speaker of Abkhazia's Parliament, known as the People's Assembly.

Early Life
Valeri Bganba was born in a village called Bzyb. This was in the Gagra District of Abkhazia.
From 1971 to 1976, he studied at the Kuban Agriculture Institute.
Political Journey
Starting in Government
In 1991, Valeri Bganba was chosen to be part of Abkhazia's Supreme Soviet. This was an important government group.
Later, in 1998 and again in 2001, he became the Chairman of the Gagra District Assembly. This meant he led the local government in that area. In 2002, he was made the Governor of the Gagra District. He held this job until 2006.
Becoming Speaker
In 2007, Mr. Bganba was elected to the People's Assembly of Abkhazia again. This is like the parliament where laws are made. He won his election in constituency number 9.
In the 2012 elections, he was one of only a few members to keep their seat. On April 3, 2012, he was chosen by other members to be the Speaker of the People's Assembly. This is a very important leadership role in the parliament.
Role as Prime Minister
Valeri Bganba became the Prime Minister of Abkhazia on September 18, 2018. The Prime Minister is the head of the government's daily work.
Acting President
After the previous president, Raul Khajimba, stepped down in January 2020, Mr. Bganba was named the acting President. An "acting" president fills the role temporarily until a new president is officially elected. He served in this role until April 23, 2020.
