Mexico City, Mexico

Valerie Campos is a talented artist from Mexico City. She was born in 1983 and grew up in Los Angeles, California. In Los Angeles, she first became interested in art through street art and a style called Lowbrow.

Valerie gets ideas from many types of music. She creates paintings that feel lively and natural. Her art mixes abstract shapes with real-life figures. She often breaks these elements apart and puts them back together, like looking through a kaleidoscope.

Valerie Campos: An Artist's Journey

Valerie Campos has always worked to bring different ideas together in her art. She explores how people, communities, and societies behave. Her artwork often includes symbols from around the world.

Sometimes these symbols are clear, and other times they are hidden. She blends elements from ancient Mesoamerican cultures. This includes hieroglyphics from Mayan and Mixtec codices (old books). She also uses ideas from cartoons, which are great for simple messages.

Exhibitions and Awards

Valerie Campos has shown her art in many places. She has had both solo shows (just her art) and group shows (with other artists). Her work has been seen in Europe, North America, and Asia.

She has won many awards and grants, both in Mexico and other countries. Some of these include the National System of Art Creators in Mexico (2020). She also received the Young Creators Program (2014/15). Other awards came from Finland (2019), India (2019), and Belgium (2017). In 2020, she started Vaivén Collectors. This is a group that makes short films and essays about art. They also organize art events. Their goal is to share and discuss modern art in Mexico.
