Vallegrande is a small, historic town in Bolivia. Its name means "Big Valley" in Spanish. It is located in the Santa Cruz Department, about 125 kilometers southwest of Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Vallegrande is the main town of the Vallegrande Province and Vallegrande Municipality. It is an important market town for the area.

This town was the first place where the body of revolutionary Che Guevara was buried after he passed away in 1967.

Exploring Vallegrande's Location

Vallegrande sits in a large valley, which is how it got its name. The town is high up, at about 2,030 meters (6,660 feet) above sea level. Around 6,000 people live here.

Vallegrande's Weather and Climate

The town has a mild, pleasant climate. This is because it's in a valley and high up. Sometimes, cold winter winds called "Surazo" blow in from the plains of Santa Cruz.

Vallegrande has a subtropical highland climate. This means temperatures are usually mild all year. However, the temperature can change a lot between day and night because of the altitude. Most rain falls during summer storms. Winters are usually dry.
