Vallegrande is a small, historic town in Bolivia. Its name means "Big Valley" in Spanish. It is located in the Santa Cruz Department, about 125 kilometers southwest of Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Vallegrande is the main town of the Vallegrande Province and Vallegrande Municipality. It is an important market town for the area.
This town was the first place where the body of revolutionary Che Guevara was buried after he passed away in 1967.

Vallegrande sits in a large valley, which is how it got its name. The town is high up, at about 2,030 meters (6,660 feet) above sea level. Around 6,000 people live here.
Vallegrande's Weather and Climate
The town has a mild, pleasant climate. This is because it's in a valley and high up. Sometimes, cold winter winds called "Surazo" blow in from the plains of Santa Cruz.
Vallegrande has a subtropical highland climate. This means temperatures are usually mild all year. However, the temperature can change a lot between day and night because of the altitude. Most rain falls during summer storms. Winters are usually dry.

Vallegrande's Economy and Products
The main jobs in Vallegrande are in farming and making things from farm products. Farmers in this area grow:
- Grains like corn and wheat.
- Fruits such as peaches, apples, grapes, pears, chirimoyas, and plums.
People also make special products here. Some of the most important include:
- Homemade bread.
- Chamas (a local food).
- Fruit liquor and wine.
- Handmade rugs and other crafts.
Getting to Vallegrande
You can reach Vallegrande by a road that branches off the main highway from Santa Cruz to Cochabamba. The town also has a small airport.
Famous People and History
The Story of Che Guevara
On October 8, 1967, a famous revolutionary named Che Guevara was captured near a place called La Higuera. He passed away the next day. His body was first buried in Vallegrande, on an airstrip.
In October 1997, his remains were moved to Cuba. He was then buried in a special memorial in Santa Clara. Today, you can visit a "Che Guevara Mausoleum" in Vallegrande. It is located at the spot where he was first buried. Many tourists come to see this historic site.
