Vanessa Rubin was born in Cleveland, Ohio. Her parents came from Trinidad and Louisiana. She grew up in a home filled with music. She studied journalism at Ohio State University. One day, she sang a song called "God Bless the Child" at a contest. The audience loved it so much they gave her a standing ovation! This moment made her decide to become a professional singer.
