Early Life
Vasilis Karras was born in a village called Kokkinohori, in Kavala, Greece. His family had roots from the Pontic region. When he was about 10 years old, his family moved to Thessaloniki. This city became very special to him. He made many friends there who stayed with him throughout his life.
Music Career
Starting Out
Vasilis Karras began singing when he was just 16 years old. In the summer of 1969, he sang at a club in Thessaloniki. People quickly loved his deep, raspy voice. The club owners asked him to sing more often. Soon, he became a favorite in his hometown.
Rising to Fame
In the 1970s, Vasilis Karras became a well-known young singer. He performed all over Northern Greece. By the end of the decade, he started creating his own songs. His first album, Alismonites ores, came out in 1980. This is when he decided to become a professional singer.
He worked with many other artists, which helped him become more famous. In 1996, he teamed up with songwriter Phoebus. Together, they created the hit album Tilefonise mou. This album sold a lot and became his best-seller. It also brought a new, modern sound to his music. This mix of traditional and modern sounds became his signature style. They worked together again for the 1999 album Epistrefo.
Helping Others and Touring
Vasilis Karras also helped many young Greek singers start their careers. He gave Despina Vandi a chance to sing at his club, which helped her become famous. Later, they even sang duets together.
Besides making albums, he often sang at nightclubs in Athens and Thessaloniki. He also traveled around the world. He performed for Greek communities in places like the United States, Germany, Australia, and Canada. He sang many duets with other big names in Greek music, like Tolis Voskopoulos and Christos Dantis.

Vasilis Karras was known for his relaxed and friendly personality. This made him popular with both fans and other musicians. He was one of the last singers known for the 'Kapsourika' style. These are love songs about lost loves and memories.
He always showed his love for his hometown, Thessaloniki. He wrote and sang many songs about the city. These songs often talked about his childhood and early loves. Some famous songs include "Den Pao Pouthena" and "Nychta Kselogiastra". His albums Apo ti Thessaloniki me agapi (1987) and Mia bradia sti Thessaloniki (1988) show how much the city meant to him. Family and Later Life
Vasilis Karras was married to Christina Kesoglides. They had a daughter named Irene. Vasilis Karras passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve in 2023, at the age of 70, after a long illness.
