Vega was a small community that used to exist in Monterey County, California. It was located near the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks. This area is about 2.5 miles (4 km) west-northwest of a town called Aromas.
Where Was Vega?
Vega was situated at an elevation of 62 feet (19 meters) above sea level. It was once marked on maps created by the USGS. These maps showed Vega as a recognized place as late as 1917.
How Vega Got Its Name
The name "Vega" was given to this settlement in 1871. It comes from a large piece of land called the Vega del Rio del Pajaro land grant. This land grant was a big area of land given by the government, and Vega was built right on it.
