Vella Lovell (born September 13, 1985) is an American actress. She is famous for her role as Heather Davis in the TV show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. She also lent her voice to Princess Mermista in the animated series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. You might also know her as Khadija from the movie The Big Sick or Mikaela from the TV show Mr. Mayor.
Early life
Vella Lovell was born in Southern California but grew up in New Mexico. Her family background includes African-American, Jewish, and European heritage.
She attended the Interlochen Arts Camp and later graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy. These are special schools where young artists can learn and grow. After that, she continued her studies at New York University and the Juilliard School, which are very famous places for acting and other arts.
Career
Vella Lovell started her acting career with smaller parts in TV shows like Girls and Younger.
In 2015, she joined the main cast of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. She played Heather Davis, a character known for her calm and honest personality. This role made her well-known to many viewers.
In 2017, Vella had a supporting role in the romantic comedy movie The Big Sick. She also appeared in The Christmas Chronicles, a Netflix movie.
A year later, in 2018, she began voicing Princess Mermista in the Netflix animated series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. Mermista is a princess who can control water. Also in 2018, Vella appeared in a music video for the singer Cher, covering the song SOS by Abba.
In 2021, Vella Lovell played Mikaela in the NBC comedy series Mr. Mayor. This show was created by famous writers Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. That same year, she starred in a TV movie called A Clusterfunke Christmas, which was a funny parody of holiday movies.
Currently, she plays Emily Price in the FOX comedy show Animal Control. This show started in 2023 and is about animal control officers.
