The Vengaboys are a fun Eurodance music group from the Netherlands. The group includes singers Kim Sasabone, Denise van Rijswijk, Robin Pors, and Donny Latupeirissa.

Two Dutch producers, Wessel van Diepen and Dennis van den Driesschen (also known as Danski and Delmundo), created the group. They became very popular in the late 1990s. The Vengaboys are famous for their hit songs like "We Like to Party", "Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!", and "We're Going to Ibiza". The last two songs even reached number one on the music charts in the UK! The group has sold about 25 million records all over the world.

In 2000, the Vengaboys won an award at the World Music Awards for being the best-selling dance group of the year. A Dutch newspaper, Nu.nl, even called them the most successful Dutch pop group ever in 2019.

History of the Vengaboys

How the Group Started (1996–1998)

The name "Vengaboys" first belonged to a music project by producers Danski and Delmundo in the early 1990s. In 1997, they decided to create a pop group using this name. They chose Kim Sasabone as the main singer. After some try-outs, Denise Post-Van Rijswijk, Roy den Burger, and Robin Pors joined to complete the group.

In 1997, the group released their first song, "Parada de Tettas". They followed this with "To Brazil!" and "Up and Down" in 1998. Their first album, Up & Down - The Party Album, came out in the Netherlands and Belgium in April 1998. It sold very well and was certified gold.

Their song "We Like to Party!" was released in May 1998. It became a big hit in the Netherlands and Belgium. In October, they released "Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!" and an album called Greatest Hits! Part 1. This album quickly became number one in the Netherlands.

In November 1998, "Up and Down" entered the UK music charts. "We Like to Party!" became a Top 10 hit in many countries in 1999, including Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. It also reached the US music charts.

In June 1999, Greatest Hits! Part 1 was re-released as The Party Album. The song "Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!" was a number one hit in the UK, New Zealand, and the Netherlands. This song was even used in a TV advertisement for Nissan cars in Japan in November 1999.

Another hit, "We're Going to Ibiza", also reached number one in the Netherlands in September 1999. This song was a new version of an older hit called "Barbados". The Party Album stayed on the US music charts for 30 weeks and sold over 500,000 copies.

In January 2000, The Remix Album was released. It had new dance versions of their popular songs.

New Album and a Break (2000–2002)

Before their next album came out, Robin Pors left the group to try a solo career. Yorick Bakker, a dolphin trainer, took his place.

The Platinum Album was released in early 2000. It also did very well. Its first three songs, "Kiss (When the Sun Don't Shine)", "Shalala Lala", and "Uncle John from Jamaica", were popular in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. The first two even reached number one in New Zealand. For their fourth song, "Cheekah Bow Bow (That Computer Song)", the group added a cartoon character named Cheekah as a virtual member.

In 2002, Denise Post-Van Rijswijk and Yorick Bakker left the group. The Vengaboys then took a break from performing.

Covers and Remixes (2020–2021)

In the summer of 2020, the band released a festival version of their hit "Up & Down" with Australian DJ Timmy Trumpet. This new version was called "Timmy Trumpet x Vengaboys".

In September 2021, the band released a cover of "1999" by Charli XCX and Troye Sivan. They renamed it "1999 (I Wanna Go Back)". The music video used special effects to show famous 1990s album covers singing the song. The band also appeared in a scene that looked like the opening of the TV show Friends.

Also in September 2021, the Vengaboys took part in the 90's Nostalgia: Electric Circus tour in Canada, which featured Eurodance music.

In December 2024, Kim Sasabone announced she was taking a break. Cilla Niekoop from the group Ch!pz replaced her for the rest of their tour.

On July 23, 2025, the Vengaboys performed with Scissor Sisters and Kesha at Madison Square Garden in New York.
