College Basketball Career
Venson Hamilton went to East Rutherford High School in Forest City, North Carolina. After high school, he played college basketball for the Nebraska Cornhuskers team. He became a star player there.
Setting New Records
Venson holds some amazing records at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He blocked 241 shots during his college career. He also grabbed 1,080 rebounds, which was nearly 300 more than the old record!
He scored a total of 1,416 points, making him the ninth-highest scorer in the school's history. Venson was also very accurate, shooting 52.7% from the field. He passed the ball for 164 assists and made 186 steals.
Top College Honors
In his final year of college, Venson was named the Big 12 Player of the Year. This is a huge award for a college basketball player.
He also set a new school record for rebounds in a single season, with 335 rebounds that year. His strong defense earned him a spot on the Big 12 conference's All-Defensive Team.
Professional Basketball Journey
After college, Venson Hamilton was chosen by the Houston Rockets in the 1999 NBA draft. He was the 50th player picked overall.
Playing in Europe
Venson started his professional career in Europe. In the 1999–2000 season, he played for Basket Napoli in Italy. The next year, he joined Prokom Trefl Sopot in Poland.
He returned to Italy in 2001 to play for Virtus Ragusa. For the 2001–2002 season, he moved to Basket Club Ferrara.
Success in Spain
In 2002, Venson moved to Spain. He played for Tenerife in the LEB Oro league. The next season, he played for Bilbao Basket in the same league.
For the 2004–2005 season, he joined DKV Joventut in the top Spanish ACB League. From 2005 to 2009, Venson played for Real Madrid, one of the biggest clubs in Spain.
With Real Madrid, he achieved great success. He helped them win the Spanish championship and the ULEB Cup in 2007.
Later Career
In 2011, Venson played one game for Gran Canaria. In 2014, he played for KB Besa in Kosovo. His last professional team was RSB Berkane in Morocco.
