Vereslav (Viacheslav) Eingorn (born November 23, 1956 – died August 18, 2026) was a Ukrainian chess grandmaster, coach, and author. He was a key member of the Ukrainian team that won a gold medal at the 2001 World Team Chess Championship.

Vereslav Eingorn: A Chess Master's Journey
His Early Life and Chess Beginnings
Vereslav Eingorn was born in Odesa, a city in Ukraine. He showed great talent for chess from a young age. He won the Odesa city championship twice, first in 1977 and again in 1979.
Competing at the Highest Levels
Eingorn competed in many USSR Chess Championships, which were very tough tournaments. His best result was finishing third in Lviv in 1984. In 1986, he shared first place at the Cappelle-la-Grande open tournament with two other strong players.
He proudly represented Ukraine in several Chess Olympiads. These are like the Olympic Games for chess teams. He played in 1992, 2000 (where his team won a bronze medal), and 2002. In 1987, he took part in the Interzonal tournament in Zagreb. This was an important step towards qualifying for the World Chess Championship, but he did not advance further. He also competed in the FIDE World Chess Championship 2002, but was eliminated in the first round.
Vereslav Eingorn also won other tournaments. These victories included Minsk in 1983, Bor in 1986, and Moscow in 1986.
How Strong Was He?
Chess experts use special systems to measure how strong a player is. According to one system called Chessmetrics, at his peak in May 1986, Vereslav Eingorn's play was like a player with a rating of 2713. This placed him among the top 12 chess players in the world at that time!
His best single tournament performance was in Minsk in 1987. There, he scored 10.5 points out of 17 possible points. This showed a very high level of play, earning him a performance rating of 2745.
In July 2009, his official FIDE Elo rating was 2560. At that time, he was ranked as Ukraine's 29th best player.
A Coach for Champions
Beyond playing, Vereslav Eingorn was also a respected chess coach. He coached the Ukrainian Women's chess team. Under his guidance, they achieved a great success by winning a gold medal at the 37th Chess Olympiad.
In 2007, FIDE (the World Chess Federation) recognized his coaching skills. They honored him with the title of Senior Trainer.
