Team History
Before they became the Vermont Reds, this baseball team had a different name. From 1980 to 1983, they were called the Lynn Sailors. They played in Lynn, Massachusetts. During those years, they were connected to other major league teams. They were with the Seattle Mariners from 1980 to 1982. Then, in 1983, they were with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In 1984, the team's owner, Mike Agganis, moved the team. They moved from Lynn, Massachusetts, to Burlington, Vermont. The team then signed a four-year deal with the Cincinnati Reds. That's when they changed their name to the Vermont Reds.
After their time as the Vermont Reds ended in 1987, the team changed again. In 1988, they became the Vermont Mariners. They were once again connected to the Seattle Mariners. Today, this same baseball team is still playing. They are now called the Akron RubberDucks. They are the Double-A team for the Cleveland Guardians.
