Terence Roy McGriff (born September 23, 1963) is an American former professional baseball player. He played as a catcher in Major League Baseball (MLB). Terry McGriff played for teams like the Cincinnati Reds, Houston Astros, Florida Marlins, and St. Louis Cardinals.
Playing Baseball
Terry McGriff started his baseball journey in 1981. The Cincinnati Reds picked him in the draft that year. He made his big league debut on July 11, 1987. He played for the Reds for a few years. Later, he joined the Houston Astros in 1990.
In 1993, Terry played for the Florida Marlins. He finished his MLB career with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1994. After his playing days, he became a coach. He coached for the Bridgeport Bluefish team.
A Special Game
On August 7, 1988, Terry McGriff was the catcher for a very special game. He played for the Nashville Sounds team. The pitcher, Jack Armstrong, threw a "no-hitter." This means the other team did not get any hits during the whole game! It was almost a "perfect game," which is even rarer. In a perfect game, no one from the other team gets on base at all.
Baseball Family
Terry McGriff comes from a family of baseball players. His cousin is Fred McGriff, who was a famous first baseman. Fred McGriff was also a Major League Baseball All-Star. Terry's nephew, Charles Johnson, was also a catcher in MLB. Charles Johnson was an All-Star too.
