Vern Yip's Early Life and Education
Vern Yip went to high school in northern Virginia. He graduated from McLean High School in 1986. After high school, he studied at the University of Virginia. He earned two bachelor's degrees there. He studied both Chemistry and Economics.
Later, Vern Yip continued his education at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He earned two master's degrees from Georgia Tech. He got a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) and a Master of Architecture. Even though he thought about opening his own design company, he enjoys his work on television. He says he loves "transforming lives through design" on TV.

Vern Yip has a family with two children. He and Craig Koch are the parents of a son, who was born in 2010. Their second child, a daughter, was born in 2011.
