Samuel Vernon Washington (born August 10, 1923 – died June 7, 1988) was an American actor. He was known for playing interesting characters in movies and on TV shows.
About Samuel Vernon Washington
Samuel Vernon Washington was born and grew up in Hartford, Connecticut. He was the eighth child of Benjamin and Olive Evans. His parents came from Dinwiddie County, Virginia and Frederick, Maryland.
Vernon was 5 feet 11 inches tall. He had four children with his wife, Marion Blunt. He studied acting and speech at the Wolter School of Speech and Drama in New York City. There, he learned from teachers like Madame Annette Wolter and Dr. Walter O. Robinson.
He was famous for his roles in a few movies. He played Otis in the 1984 science fiction movie The Last Starfighter. He was also George in the 1985 horror movie Friday the 13th: A New Beginning.
On TV, he was Rev. Mills in the 1979 miniseries Roots: The Next Generations. Vernon also appeared many times on the TV show The Jeffersons as Leroy. Later, he was Teddy Eubanks, a horse groomer, in an episode of Falcon Crest.
Besides acting, Vernon Washington was also a writer, director, and producer. He won the "Stars & Stripes Award" for his Army musical called "Ready, Front, at Ease." He started the West End Repertory Theatre in New York City. He also worked as an Artistic Director for several theater workshops. He was even an Assistant Professor of Drama at Staten Island Community College.
