A Look at Verona Church History

How the Church Began

The Verona church was built around 1880. It was one of two new churches that took the place of an older church called Cave Spring Methodist Church. The Cave Spring church had been built much earlier, sometime in the 1840s or 1850s.

When the Cave Spring church closed, its members split up. Some went to a new church in Farmington, and others came to the new Verona church.

Reusing Old Materials

When the old Cave Spring Church was taken down, some of its parts were saved. These materials were then used to help build the new Verona church. For example, the pews (church benches) and the bell from the Cave Spring church were moved and put into the Verona church. There's even a wooden cross hanging in the Verona church today. It was made from the cedar doorsteps of the old Cave Spring church!

Growing Over the Years

The church building grew bigger over time. New rooms for Sunday School were added in the 1930s and again in the 1950s. These additions helped the church have more space for its activities.

In 1985, the Verona United Methodist Church was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's recognized as an important historical building.

Changes and New Beginnings

For many years, the Verona church shared a pastor with other nearby United Methodist churches. These included churches in Berlin, Caney Spring, and Farmington. In 2003, the Farmington church became separate from the others.

The Verona United Methodist Church eventually closed its doors in 2011. Today, the building has a new name and purpose. It is now home to the Reformed Baptist Fellowship.
