Vesey Dawson was an important Irish politician. He was born on April 22, 1842, and passed away on June 14, 1920. For many years, people knew him as Viscount Cremorne. Later, he became the 2nd Earl of Dartrey. He was a member of the Liberal Party in Ireland.

Early Life and Family
Vesey Dawson was the oldest child of Richard Dawson. His father was the 1st Earl of Dartrey. His mother was Augusta Stanley. Vesey went to Eton College, a famous school.
Military Career
After school, Vesey joined the British Army. He became a captain. Later, he rose to the rank of lieutenant-colonel. He served in a famous army group called the Coldstream Guards. He left the army in 1876.
Marriage and Children
In 1882, Vesey Dawson married Julia Georgiana Sarah Wombwell. Her father was Sir George Orby Wombwell. Vesey and Julia had three children together:
- Lady Edith Anne Dawson (born 1883, died 1974)
- Lady Mara Augusta Dawson (born 1887, died 1961)
- Richard George Dawson (born 1890, died 1894)
Political Journey
Vesey Dawson became a politician. He was part of the Irish Liberal Party. This party worked to make changes in Ireland.
Member of Parliament
In 1865, Vesey Dawson was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is a person chosen to represent an area in the country's government. He represented the area of Monaghan. He served as an MP until 1868.
High Sheriff
In 1878, Vesey Dawson had another important role. He became the High Sheriff of Monaghan. A High Sheriff is a special officer. They help keep law and order in a county.

In 1903, Vesey Dawson and his wife attended a big event. It was called the Delhi Durbar. This event celebrated King Edward VII becoming the Emperor of India.
Becoming an Earl

As Lord Dartrey, he owned a lot of land. He had about 25,000 acres. That's a very large area! He was also a member of the Travellers' Club in Dublin.
Later Life and Passing
Lord Dartrey passed away in 1920. He died at his home, Dartrey Castle. This castle was in County Monaghan, Ireland. After his death, his brother, Anthony Lucius Dawson, became the 3rd Earl of Dartrey.
