A Look Back: Vesper's History
Vesper started in 1886. This was when the railroad tracks reached the area. When a town is "laid out," it means people planned where the streets and buildings would go. The community used to have its own post office, where people could send and receive mail. But the post office in Vesper closed down in 1966.
Schools and Education in Vesper
The students in Vesper attend schools that are part of the Sylvan–Lucas USD 299 public school district. A school district is a group of schools in an area that are managed together.
Vesper High School and Mergers
Vesper High School first opened its doors in 1914. Over the years, schools in this area joined together to form larger districts. In 1966, Vesper High School joined with schools from Hunter and Sylvan Grove. They formed a new district called Sylvan Unified schools. Later, in 2010, Sylvan Unified schools joined with Lucas-Luray schools. This created the current Sylvan-Lucas Unified schools district.
School Mascots
When Vesper High School was open, their sports teams and students were known as the Vesper Cardinals. After the schools merged, the Sylvan Unified and Sylvan-Lucas Unified schools chose a new mascot. Their mascot is now the Mustangs.
