Victor K. Bellamy, born on June 2, 1963, is a former American football player. He played as a defensive back for the Philadelphia Eagles in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the pros, he played college football at Syracuse University.
Early Life and College Football
Vic Bellamy was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He went to Central High School in his hometown.
From 1981 to 1984, Bellamy played college football for the Syracuse Orange team at Syracuse University. He was a key player for three years, earning a "letterman" title each season. This means he played well enough to earn a special award from the university.
Professional Football Career
After college, Bellamy was not chosen in the 1985 NFL draft. This means no NFL team picked him right away. However, another league, the United States Football League (USFL), did select him. The New Jersey Generals picked him in their 1985 draft.
Bellamy decided not to sign with the Generals. Instead, he chose to finish his business degree at Syracuse University. After graduating, he worked at an insurance company. He also played for a semi-professional team called the Philadelphia Roughriders.
Playing for the Philadelphia Eagles
On August 3, 1987, Bellamy signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. He was released from the team on September 6, 1987.
Later that month, on September 23, he rejoined the Eagles. This happened during a time when many NFL players were on strike. Bellamy started in all three games the Eagles played during this strike. After the strike ended, he was released again on October 19, 1987.
