Vice-President of the Comoros facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Vice-President of the Comoros was an important job in the government of the Comoros, a country made of islands. A Vice-President helped the President. They were chosen by the President.

From 2002 to 2011, the jobs of President and the two Vice-Presidents took turns between the three main Comoro Islands: Grande Comore, Anjouan, and Mohéli. This was to make sure each island had a chance to lead.

Later, from 2011 to 2019, there were three Vice-Presidents. Each one came from a different island in the Union of the Comoros. This system changed in May 2019. After a special vote called a constitutional referendum in 2018, the Vice-President roles were removed. Now, a "main minister" and the governors of the islands are next in line to become acting president if needed.
