Victor (Viorel) Bologan, born on December 14, 1971, is a famous Moldovan chess player and author. He was given the highest title in chess, Grandmaster, by FIDE in 1991.
Chess Career
Victor Bologan has won many important chess tournaments. He won the Poikovsky Karpov International Tournament twice, in 2000 and 2001. He also shared first place in that tournament in 2005 and 2015. In 2003, he won the Aeroflot Open and the Dortmund Sparkassen Chess Meeting. He beat some of the best players in the world at these events.
In 2005, Victor won the Canadian Open Chess Championship. He also shared first place in the 2006 Aeroflot Open. In 2010, he tied for first place at the Bosna International Open in Sarajevo.
Bologan played for his home country, Moldova, in the Chess Olympiad. This is a big team chess tournament. He played in the Olympiads from 1992 to 1998, and again from 2002 to 2014.
Education and Learning
Victor Bologan didn't just play chess; he also studied it! He graduated from the Moscow Physical Culture and Sports Institute in 1993. Later, in 1996, he earned a special degree called a doctorate. His research was about how top chess players get ready for games. He did this at the Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport, Youth and Tourism.

Victor Bologan is married to Margarita Bologan. They have three children together. He currently lives in Doha, Qatar.

Victor Bologan is not only a great player but also a chess author. He has written many books about chess strategies. These books help other players learn how to play better. He has also created special DVDs called "Fritztrainer opening DVDs." These DVDs teach chess openings, which are the first moves in a game.
