Zahar Oleksandrovych Efimenko (born on July 3, 1985) is a famous Ukrainian chess player. He holds the highest title in chess, known as Grandmaster. Zahar was part of the Ukrainian team that won a gold medal at the 2010 Chess Olympiad. He has also played in the important FIDE World Cup chess tournaments in 2005, 2009, and 2011.

Zahar Efimenko's Chess Journey
Early Success in Youth Chess
Zahar Efimenko showed his talent for chess from a young age. In 1999, when he was just 14 years old, he won the U-14 (Under 14) division of the World Youth Chess Championship. This big event took place in Oropesa del Mar, Spain. In the same year, he was also a key player on the Ukrainian national youth team. This team won the U-16 (Under 16) Chess Olympiad, which was held in Artek, Ukraine.
Becoming a Chess Champion
As Zahar grew older, he continued to achieve great things in chess. He won several important tournaments. For example, in 2001, he won the Stork Young Masters tournament in Hengelo, Netherlands. In 2005, he shared first place with four other strong players at the Gibraltar Chess Festival.
His hard work paid off when he became the champion of Ukraine in 2006. In 2007, he tied for first place with five other players at the 16th Monarch Assurance Isle of Man International tournament.
Winning Team Gold at the Olympiad
Zahar Efimenko kept up his winning streak. In May 2010, he tied for first place at the 40th Bosna International Tournament in Sarajevo. Later that year, he played a crucial role at the 39th Chess Olympiad in Khanty-Mansiysk. His team won the gold medal, and Zahar also earned an individual silver medal for his great performance on board 4.
He continued to excel in later years. In July 2013, he tied for first place at the Masters tournament of the Abu Dhabi Chess Festival. In 2015, Zahar tied for first place again at the Ukrainian championship in Lviv. This shows his consistent skill and dedication to the game.
Zahar's Personal Life
Zahar Efimenko married another talented Ukrainian chess player, Maria Tantsiura. She holds the title of Woman International Master (WIM). They got married on April 25, 2015.
