Victor Braunig Lake, once called East Lake, is a large, human-made lake. It is located about 17 miles (27 kilometers) south of downtown San Antonio, Texas, USA. This lake was created in 1962 by building a dam across Calaveras Creek and Chupaderas Creek.
The main purpose of Braunig Lake is to cool a power plant. This plant helps provide electricity for the city of San Antonio. The lake was named after Victor Braunig (1890-1982). He worked for the San Antonio power company for a long time, even becoming its general manager.
The company that manages the lake and dam is called CPS Energy. Braunig Lake, along with Calaveras Lake, was one of the first places in the country to use treated wastewater to cool a power plant. This means some of the water in the lake has been cleaned at a special water treatment plant. Besides helping with power, Braunig Lake is also a popular spot for fun activities like fishing and boating.
Fish and Aquatic Life
Braunig Lake is home to many types of fish. These fish were put into the lake to make it a great place for people to go fishing. You can find several popular fish species here.
