Calaveras Lake is a large, man-made lake, also known as a reservoir. It's located about 20 miles (32 kilometers) southeast of San Antonio, Texas, in the USA. This lake was created in 1969 on a stream called Calaveras Creek.

The main reason Calaveras Lake was built was to cool down several power plants nearby. These plants are called the Calaveras Power Station. They help make extra electricity for the city of San Antonio. CPS Energy of San Antonio manages both the dam and the lake.

Calaveras Lake, along with a smaller lake called Victor Braunig Lake, was one of the first projects in the country to use treated wastewater for cooling power plants. Part of the lake is filled with water that has been cleaned at a San Antonio Water System plant. Besides its important job for power plants, Calaveras Lake is also a popular spot for fun activities like fishing and boating. However, sailboats are not allowed on the lake.
