Victor Brown (who passed away in 2016), was a talented performer known as Vic Evans. He was born in Cuba but had Jamaican and British roots. He became famous as one half of the musical duo Harriott & Evans.

Early Life and Career

Victor Brown was born in Banes, Cuba. His parents were from Jamaica. His father, John Brown, was an engineer.

Victor trained to work on ships and left Jamaica for Britain in 1939. He served during World War II. After the war, he started performing. He even performed with his brother Noel, and they were known as the Brown Brothers. They entertained soldiers and performed in nightclubs. Victor also worked with other musicians like Prince Zulamkah and the pianist Winifred Atwell.

In 1947, Victor moved to West Africa with his wife, Kameedea, who was a nurse. While there, he joined Ghanaian music groups and played with musicians like E. T. Mensah and Guy Warren. He also tried to start a timber business, but it didn't work out.

Harriott & Evans

Victor returned to Britain and continued performing with his brother Noel. He later met the pianist Chester Harriott at a club in Chelsea. Victor and Chester decided to form a musical duo. Chester played the piano, and Victor sang as a tenor.

Their act was very successful! They spent eight years performing and touring as a variety act called Harriott & Evans. Victor Brown became known by his stage name, Vic Evans. They were part of a lively jazz music scene and traveled all over the world. In 1961, they were even called "Europe's greatest coloured entertainers" when they opened for a Tommy Steele concert. Harriott and Evans stopped performing together in 1962.

Later Years

In his later life, Victor Brown and his wife moved to Lancashire, settling in a town called Morecambe. Victor passed away in 2016 when he was 95 years old.
