Victor G. Guillory is a retired United States Navy officer. He was a Rear Admiral. His last job was leading the United States Fourth Fleet. This is a group of Navy ships and sailors.

Early Life and Navy Career

Victor G. Guillory was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He finished high school in 1973. Then, he went to the United States Naval Academy. He graduated in 1978 with a degree in Management and Technology.

First Ship Assignments

Guillory started his Navy career on several ships. He served on the guided-missile destroyer USS Towers (DDG-9). He also worked on the guided-missile frigate USS Lewis B. Puller (FFG-23). Later, he was on the cruiser USS Vincennes (CG-49). He helped start up the cruiser USS Gettysburg (CG-64) as its executive officer.

Leading Ships

He later became the commanding officer of two ships. He led the guided-missile frigate USS Underwood (FFG-36). He also commanded the cruiser USS Lake Champlain (CG-57).

Shore Duty and Staff Roles

When not at sea, Guillory had other important jobs. He worked as a Navy recruiter in his hometown. He also had several assignments in Washington D.C. He worked in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. There, he focused on combat systems for surface ships. He also served on the Joint Staff, which helps lead all parts of the U.S. military.

Becoming a Flag Officer

In 2004, Victor Guillory was chosen to become a flag officer. This means he became a high-ranking admiral.

Leading Amphibious Forces

In October 2004, he took command of the Amphibious Force. This force works with the United States Seventh Fleet. He was in charge of amphibious operations in the Western Pacific. These are operations where troops land from the sea. In 2005, he also helped lead relief efforts. This was after a big tsunami hit Southeast Asia.

Return to Washington D.C.

In December 2006, Guillory returned to Washington D.C. He worked again in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. He became the deputy director of Surface Warfare. In October 2007, he became the director. In this role, he was responsible for the needs and resources of all surface combatant ships. He also oversaw their combat systems.

Leading the Fourth Fleet

In June 2009, Guillory was chosen for another big command. He became the leader of the United States Naval Forces Southern Command. He also led the United States Fourth Fleet.

Education and Awards

Guillory is a graduate of the National Defense University. He also received a special award in 2009. It was the Black Engineer of the Year Award for Leadership.

Combat Experience

While serving on the USS Vincennes, Guillory was an Operations department officer. He was the tactical action officer during battle situations. On July 3, 1988, he was in the Combat Information Center. He was next to Captain Will C. Rogers III. He played a key role in a battle with Iranian Revolutionary Guard ships. This was followed by actions involving Iran Air Flight 655.
