Early Life and Learning

Victor Juhasz grew up in Newark, New Jersey. He studied art at the Parsons School of Design. He finished his studies there in 1974. Even while he was still a student, his first drawings were published. They appeared in The New York Times, which is a very famous newspaper.

His Art Work

Victor Juhasz's art has been featured in many popular magazines. You might have seen his work in Rolling Stone, Time Magazine, and Esquire Magazine.

He became well-known for the funny drawings he made for David Feherty's columns. These were in Golf Magazine for many years. Victor also regularly illustrates articles by Matt Taibbi for Rolling Stone. Since 2015, he has also created art for political articles. These appear in Canada's National Observer.

Drawing in Court

Early in his career, Victor Juhasz worked as a courtroom artist. This means he drew what happened in courtrooms. He drew for ABC-TV. He also drew for The Washington Post. His job was to quickly sketch important moments during trials.

Drawing on the Front Lines

Victor Juhasz also follows a special tradition. He draws what he sees with the US Military. This is like artists from the past, such as Winslow Homer during the Civil War.

Victor started drawing for the military in 2006. He first gave some of his artwork to the Air Force Art Program. Soon after, he visited military bases. He drew soldiers and airmen training for urban combat. He also drew Air Force Special Operations teams.

In 2008, Victor went to Kuwait and Iraq. He was part of a tour called "Operation LINKS." There, he drew military men and women while they were on duty. The art he brought back was different from his usual political drawings.

In 2010, he visited Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan. He drew portraits of service members there. When he returned, he mailed the original drawings to their families.

In 2011, Victor started working with the Joe Bonham Project. This project helps document the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan through art. He drew and painted wounded soldiers. He visited them at Bethesda Naval Hospital and McGuire Hospital.

Later in 2011, Victor went to Kandahar, Afghanistan. He was with an Army helicopter MEDEVAC unit. He also joined members of Alpha Company 7–101. For two weeks, he went on missions with medic teams. He drew them as they helped wounded soldiers.

In 2013, Victor Juhasz won a gold medal. This was from the Society of Illustrators. He received it for his series called 'An American Artist in the Combat Zone'.
