Victor Lanoux (born June 18, 1936 – died May 4, 2017) was a famous French actor. Many people outside of France knew him for his role as Ludovic in the movie Cousin, Cousine. He also starred in many other films and TV shows.
About Victor Lanoux
Victor Lanoux was born Victor Robert Nataf. His father was from Tunisia, and his mother was from France. When he was a child, Paris was not safe because of World War II. So, he moved away from the city. He lived in a place called La Chapelle-Taillefert until he was 11 years old. After the war, he went back to Paris.
Victor left school when he was 14. He started working as an apprentice, learning to varnish things. He had many different jobs, like working on a car assembly line. Later, he joined the French Army. He served during the Algerian War and was injured. Because of his injury, he received a special award called the Medal for War Wounded.
After his time in the army, his father helped him get a job at a film studio. There, Victor started to learn about acting. He took acting classes by mail and then in person.
Victor Lanoux's Career
In 1961, Victor met Pierre Richard, another actor. Pierre was looking for someone to perform with him in a comedy show. They worked together for several years. They even performed at a famous theater called Bobino.
A director named René Allio saw their show. He was impressed and cast Victor in his movie The Shameless Old Lady (1965). This was Victor's first big movie role. It led to him getting a main part in another film, La Vie Normale (1967).
Victor also performed in plays. Georges Wilson, a director at the National Popular Theater (TNP), chose Victor to play Laertes in the play 'Hamlet'. Victor then acted in 'La Folle de Chaillot' and starred in 'Illusion Comique' for three years.
He became very well-known in France. In 1976, he was nominated for two César Awards. These awards are like the Oscars in France. He was nominated for his roles in Cousin Cousine and The French Detective. Outside of Europe, one of his most famous roles was as The Thief in the 1985 comedy National Lampoon's European Vacation.
Victor Lanoux continued to act in many movies and TV shows throughout his life. He was a talented actor who played many different kinds of characters.
