Victoria Shaw was born in Sydney, Australia. Her full name was Jeanette Ann Lavina Mary Elizabeth Elphick. Her parents were Captain and Mrs. Francis W. Elphick. She grew up in Croydon, New South Wales, and went to a convent school there.
Starting Her Acting Career
Before becoming an actress, Victoria worked in an insurance office. She then studied modeling at the Dally-Watkins Agency. Her first movie role in Australia was in The Phantom Stockman (1953).
The famous American comedian Bob Hope saw her while he was visiting Australia. He told her she should try acting in Hollywood. In 1955, she signed a contract with Columbia Pictures.
