Vidette Lake is a small lake located in the beautiful Interior of British Columbia, Canada. It sits within the Deadman River Valley. Even though it's in the valley, the lake is actually on a smaller stream that flows into the Deadman River, not the main river itself. The lake is found near the town of Savona.

A Look Back in Time

Gold Rush Days

Long ago, during the exciting Cariboo Gold Rush, a special path went right past Vidette Lake. This path was used by people traveling from Kamloops to the goldfields. They were hoping to find their fortune!

Old Trading Post

A cabin near the lake was once a busy trading post. It was part of the Hudson's Bay Brigade Trail. Today, this old cabin is part of a guest lodge where visitors can stay.

The Vidette Lake Mine

From 1933 to 1939, a mine called the Vidette Lake Mine operated on the east side of the lake. Miners worked hard there, digging up valuable minerals. They found a lot of gold, silver, and copper. Even after the mine closed, people have continued to explore the area for more minerals.

The "Centre of the Universe"

Vidette Lake is known for a very special reason. Some Tibetan Buddhist monks have visited the lake and studied the area. They believe that a spot overlooking the lake is the "Centre of the Universe."

This special place is not marked with a sign. The owner of the land runs a guest lodge called the Vidette Lake Gold Mine Fishing Lodge. People who want to visit this unique and peaceful site can stay at the lodge.
