A Look Back at Vidlin's History
Vidlin is located at the very end of Vidlin Voe, which is a narrow inlet of the sea. It has become the main center for the old area known as Lunnasting. This area used to be focused around an early church in Lunna on Lunna Ness.
An important historical item, the Lunnasting stone, was found near Vidlin. This stone has a special Pictish ogham inscription carved into it. An ogham inscription is an ancient way of writing using lines and notches. We still don't fully understand what the inscription on the Lunnasting stone means. The stone was given to the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland in 1876.
