Vidya Sinha (born November 15, 1947 – died August 15, 2019) was a famous Indian actress. She was well-known for her roles in Hindi films like Rajnigandha (1974), Chhoti Si Baat (1975), and Pati Patni Aur Woh (1978). Vidya started her career as a model and even won the "Miss Bombay" title.
Her first movie was Raja Kaka in 1974. However, she became very famous with the movie Rajnigandha, which was a big hit. Later in her life, she also acted in many TV shows and the popular Salman Khan movie Bodyguard (2011).

Vidya Sinha was born in Mumbai, India, on November 15, 1947. Her father, Pratap A. Rana, was a film producer. He was also the son-in-law of the famous film director Mohan Sinha.
Career
Movies
When Vidya was 18, she joined a beauty contest and won the "Miss Bombay" title. After that, she started modeling for many popular brands. She was discovered by the film director Basu Chatterjee.
Her first movie was Raja Kaka in 1974. But it was Rajnigandha (1974), also directed by Basu Chatterjee, that made her a star. This movie was a big success even though it didn't have the usual big-budget special effects.
She then starred in another hit movie, Chhoti Si Baat (1975). This led her to act in bigger movies like Karm (1977) with Rajesh Khanna, Mukti (1977) with Sanjeev Kumar, and Pati Patni Aur Woh (1978). Vidya acted in about 30 movies over ten years.
In the 1981 movie Josh, she played a rare negative role as a gangster. She also played Vijeta Pandit's mother in the romantic film Love Story (1981). After living in Australia for some years, Vidya returned to India and started acting in TV shows. Her last movie was Bodyguard (2011), which was her first film in 25 years.

Vidya Sinha also had a successful career in television. She acted in many TV serials, including Bahu Rani (2000), Hum Do Hain Na, Bhabhi, and Kkavyanjali (2004).
In 2011, she appeared in the show Haar Jeet. She was also known for her role as Badi Bi in the Zee TV show Qubool Hai. Later, she played grandmothers in shows like Itti Si Khushi, Chandra Nandini, and Kullfi Kumarr Bajewala.
Personal life
Vidya Sinha married Venkateshwaran Iyer in 1968. In 1989, they adopted a daughter named Jhanvi. After her husband passed away in 1996, Vidya moved to Sydney, Australia. She later married Netaji Bhimrao Salunke in 2001. They later divorced.
Death
Vidya Sinha passed away on August 15, 2019, in a hospital in Mumbai. She was 71 years old. Her death was caused by respiratory failure, which means her lungs and heart were not working well. She had been admitted to the hospital a few days earlier due to breathing problems.
