History of Vienna, New Jersey

Vienna was first settled a long time ago. It was originally called "Cumminstown." This name came from the Cummins family. They were some of the first people to buy land here in 1755. The Cummins family lived in the area until 1880.

Around 1828, the community's name was changed. It became "Vienna." This new name was inspired by the city of Vienna in Austria. Austria was the home country of the Cummins family. A Christian church was started in Vienna, New Jersey, in 1839.

By 1882, Vienna had grown quite a bit. Its population reached about 450 people. At that time, Vienna had important places like a post office and a hotel. It also had factories, such as a chair factory and a foundry. These businesses helped the community to trade goods.
