Frances Antony Cyril Raja (born 24 July 1975), known as Vijay Antony, is a talented Indian artist. He works mostly in Tamil cinema. He is a music composer, singer, actor, and filmmaker. He also edits films, writes songs, and works with sound.
Vijay Antony started as a music composer in 2005 with the film Sukran. He began acting in 2012 in the movie Naan. He is well-known for his roles in exciting action movies like Salim (2014) and Pichaikkaran (2016).

Early Life and Beginnings
Vijay Antony was born in Nagercoil, Kanyakumari District. His mother raised him. When he started in the film world, he first used the name Agni. However, director S. A. Chandrasekhar suggested he change it to Vijay, saying it would bring him more luck.
Vijay Antony did not formally study music. He started his career as a sound engineer. Later, he became a music composer. After finishing his studies, he opened his own sound studio called Audio Infotainment. There, he worked as a sound engineer.
In his early days, he created short musical pieces for advertisements. He also made background music for TV shows. He learned a lot about sound engineering to do this. His first chance to compose music for a movie came when Oscar Ravichandran asked him to work on his film Dishyum. But the movie Sukran was released first, making it his official debut as a film music composer.

Composing Music for Films
Vijay Antony began his journey as a music composer with the 2005 film Sukran. He was recognized for his music in the 2007 film Naan Avan Illai.
His songs for the 2008 film Kadhalil Vizhunthen became very popular. Especially famous was the energetic song Nakka Mukka. This song helped him become the first Indian music director to win a Cannes Golden Lion award. He won it for "Nakka Mukka" (for The Times of India) in the Best of Music category. The song was even played at the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
Vijay Antony composed music for several Tamil films in 2009. These included A Aa E Ee, TN 07 AL 4777, Mariyadhai, Ninaithale Inikkum, and Vettaikaaran.
He continued to compose music for many Tamil films in the early 2010s. Some of these were Aval Peyar Thamizharasi, Uthama Puthiran, Vedi, and Velayudham.
Vijay Antony also composed music for films in other languages. He made his Telugu debut with Mahatma (2009). His Kannada debut was with Buddhivantha (2007).
He has composed music for most of the films he has acted in himself. These include Naan (2012), Salim (2014), Pichaikkaran (2016), Saithan (2016), Yaman (2017), Annadurai (2017), Kaali (2018), Thimiru Pudichavan (2019), and Pichaikkaran 2 (2023).
Acting in Films
Vijay Antony started acting in the crime thriller Naan in 2012. He played the main character in this film. His next acting role was in Salim, an action thriller. This movie was a follow-up to Naan. He also composed the music for Salim.
In 2015, he starred in the romantic comedy India Pakistan. This was his first acting role where he was not also the music director. In 2016, he chose to act in the action thriller Pichaikkaran. He worked with director Sasi again, who had directed Dishyum. Pichaikkaran was a big success. The Telugu version, Bichagadu, was even more popular. His next film was Saithan, an action thriller directed by a new director, Pradeep Krishnamoorthy.
In 2017, he appeared in the political action thriller Yaman. This film was directed by Jeeva Shankar, whom he had worked with before on Naan. Yaman received good reviews. His next film that year was Annadurai, an action drama. In 2018, he starred in Kaali, a historical action film. He also appeared in Thimiru Pudichavan, an action film. In 2019, he starred in Kolaigaran, an action thriller with Arjun. This film also received very positive reviews.
Vijay Antony made his debut as a director with Pichaikkaran 2 in 2023. He also played the main role in this film. In 2024, Vijay Antony played a romantic hero in the film Romeo.
Personal Life and Family
Vijay Antony is married to Fatima Vijay Antony. They have two daughters.
Vijay Antony has a famous great-grandfather named Samuel Vedanayagam Pillai. He was a Tamil poet, writer, and social worker. He is remembered for writing Prathapa Mudaliar Charithram. This book is known as the "first modern Tamil novel." Vedanayagam's ideas about women's freedom and education are shown in this novel.
