Kanyakumari district is the southernmost district in Tamil Nadu state and mainland India. It is a very important place because it's the tip of the Indian subcontinent! It's also one of the most crowded districts in Tamil Nadu and has a lot of cities and towns, second only to Chennai district. Kanyakumari district is also known for having the highest number of people who can read and write in the whole state. The main town and headquarters of the district is Nagercoil.

Where is Kanyakumari?
Kanyakumari is located at the very southern end of the Western Ghats mountain range. It's a special place where three big bodies of water meet: the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea, and the Indian Ocean. This makes for amazing sunrises and sunsets over the water!
A Look at History
Kanyakumari has a long and interesting history. It was once part of the ancient Chera Dynasty and later became part of the Travancore kingdom. - Thiruvalluvar Statue: Right next to the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, there's a giant statue of Thiruvalluvar, a very famous Tamil poet and philosopher. It's 133 feet tall!
- Kanyakumari Temple: This ancient temple is dedicated to the goddess Kanya Kumari. It's a popular place for pilgrims and visitors.
