Vijay Atluri facts for kids

Vijayalakshmi Atluri (born in 1956) is a brilliant computer scientist from India. She is an expert in keeping computer information safe and organizing large amounts of data. Her Education Journey

Vijayalakshmi Atluri studied Electronics and Communications Engineering. She earned her first degree, a Bachelor of Technology, in May 1977. She got this degree from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada.

She then went on to get a Master of Technology degree. This was also in Electronics and Communications Engineering. She finished this in June 1979 at IIT Kharagpur.

Later, in May 1994, she earned her Ph.D. (a very high degree) in Information Technology. She completed this at George Mason University. Her special research project was about keeping databases secure. Her main teacher for her Ph.D. was Sushil Jajodia.

Early Teaching Roles

She started her career as a lecturer at Acharya Nagarjuna University. She taught there from August 1980 to December 1982. She returned to teach there again from December 1983 to March 1985.

For a short time, she was also a lecturer at Andhra University. This was from December 1982 to December 1983. From March 1985 to August 1990, she was an assistant professor. She taught in the electronics, communication, and computer engineering department at Nagarjuna University.

Research and Rutgers

From August 1990 to August 1994, she worked as a research assistant. She was at the Center for Secure Information Systems at George Mason University. Here, she focused on making computer systems safe.

In October 1996, Professor Atluri joined Rutgers Business School – Newark. She became part of the management doctorate program. In 1996, she received a special award called the National Science Foundation CAREER Award. This award helps promising young professors with their research.

She was an assistant professor from July 1995 to June 2001. Then, she became an associate professor from July 2001 to June 2006. In July 2006, she became a full professor. In 2010, she joined the advisory board for the computer science department. This was at the University of the People. This university offers online degrees to students all over the world.
