Vijay Deverakonda (born May 9, 1989) is an Indian actor and film producer. He mostly works in Telugu films. He is one of the highest-paid actors in Telugu cinema. Since 2018, he has been on Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list. He has won many awards, including a Filmfare Award and Nandi Award.

Vijay Deverakonda started his acting career with the movie Nuvvila (2011). He gained attention for his role in Yevade Subramanyam (2015). He became a well-known actor after starring in Pelli Choopulu (2016) and Arjun Reddy (2017). For Arjun Reddy, he won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu for playing a doctor with a strong temper. He continued his success with popular films like Mahanati (2018), Geetha Govindam (2018), and Taxiwaala (2018). Later, some of his films, like Liger (2022), did not do well.

In 2019, Deverakonda started his own film company called King of the Hill Entertainment. This company made movies like Meeku Maathrame Cheptha (2019) and Pushpaka Vimanam (2021). Besides movies, he also has his own fashion brand called Rowdy Wear, which started on Myntra in 2020. He also partly owns the volleyball team Hyderabad Black Hawks. Vijay Deverakonda promotes many products and helps with different charity projects.

About Vijay Deverakonda's Early Life

Vijay Deverakonda was born in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh (now Telangana). His parents are Govardhan Rao and Madhavi. His family comes from a village called Thummanpeta. His father used to direct TV shows but stopped because they were not very successful.

Vijay went to Sri Sathya Sai Higher Secondary School, a boarding school, until 10th grade. He then studied at Little Flower Junior College in Hyderabad. He has a degree in commerce. His younger brother, Anand, is also an actor.

Vijay Deverakonda's Acting Career

Starting Out (2011–2015)

Vijay Deverakonda's first movie was Nuvvila (2011), a romantic comedy. He also had a small part in Life is Beautiful (2012). He met Nag Ashwin, who later gave him a supporting role in the 2015 movie Yevade Subramanyam. This film was about growing up and also starred Nani. The daughters of a film producer, Ashwini Dutt, helped him. One of them, Swapna Dutt, signed him to her company.

Becoming Famous (2016–2018)

Vijay Deverakonda's first main role was in Pelli Choopulu (2016). This was a romantic film about growing up. The movie was very successful and won the Filmfare Award for Best Film – Telugu. It also won the Best Feature Film in Telugu at the 64th National Film Awards. In 2017, he starred in Dwaraka.

Next, he starred in the romantic movie Arjun Reddy. This film was both praised and criticized for being bold. However, Vijay's acting as a short-tempered doctor was highly praised. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu for this role. In 2019, Film Companion listed his performance in Arjun Reddy as one of the "100 Greatest Performances of the Decade."

In 2018, Vijay Deverakonda acted in several films. One was Ye Mantram Vesave, which was filmed in 2013 but released much later. He had an important role in Mahanati, a movie about the life of actress Savitri. His most successful movie in 2018 was the romantic comedy Geetha Govindam. In this film, he played a shy college professor alongside Rashmika Mandanna. The movie was very popular and earned over 130 crore Indian Rupees worldwide. He then appeared in the Tamil political thriller NOTA, which did not do well. His last film in 2018 was Taxiwaala, a supernatural comedy thriller, which earned good money at the box office.

Recent Films (2019–Present)

In 2019, Vijay Deverakonda was in Dear Comrade, a romantic action movie, again with Rashmika Mandanna. He also signed a movie called Hero, but it was stopped after filming began. In 2020, he acted in the romantic drama World Famous Lover, which received negative reviews.

In 2022, he starred in Liger, a film made in both Hindi and Telugu. This movie also received very negative reviews. He then appeared in Kushi (2023), which got mixed reviews and was an average success. In 2024, Deverakonda starred in The Family Star, which did not do well at the box office. Later that year, he had a small role as the warrior Arjuna in the science-fiction movie Kalki 2898 AD.

Other Work and Projects

Vijay Deverakonda was the face of the food delivery app Zomato. On October 15, 2018, he launched his fashion brand called Rowdy Wear. Later, in 2020, Rowdy Wear became available on Myntra, an online shopping site.

Vijay Deverakonda has given money to help people in need. He donated to the families of victims of the 2019 Pulwama attack.

In April 2019, he started The Deverakonda Foundation, which is a nonprofit organisation. In early 2020, he donated money through his foundation to help Ganesh Ambari, a kickboxer.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, his foundation started an effort called the Middle Class Fund (MCF). This fund helped 17,000 middle-class families with groceries and basic things. More than 8,500 volunteers also donated money to help. The initiative ended on June 2, 2020. In 2021, Deverakonda opened his first movie theater in Mahbubnagar.

Vijay Deverakonda says his family used to call him a rowdy when he did things they did not like. Over time, he started using this word for himself and his fans.

He is known for sharing his honest opinions during interviews or on stage. This has made him very popular, but he has also received some criticism, like after his speech at the music launch of Arjun Reddy in 2017.

In 2018, Vijay Deverakonda was ranked 72nd on the Forbes India Celebrity 100 list. Forbes India also included him in their 30 Under 30 list. According to Google's yearly report, he became the most searched South Indian actor.
