Viktoria Rebensburg (born 4 October 1989) is a German former alpine skiing champion. She was a top athlete in the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup and won a gold medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics. She is especially known for her skills in the giant slalom race.

Viktoria's Skiing Journey

Viktoria Rebensburg started her amazing career in alpine skiing. She quickly became known for her talent on the slopes. She competed in many big races around the world.

Early Success and Olympic Gold

Viktoria's first big win came at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. Even though she hadn't won a major international race before, she surprised everyone by winning the gold medal in the giant slalom. This was a huge moment for her and for German skiing! Before this, her best result was a second-place finish in a World Cup race.

World Cup Achievements

After her Olympic win, Viktoria continued to shine in the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup. This is a series of races held each year. She won her first World Cup race in October 2010 in Austria. She became a specialist in the giant slalom.

  • She won the giant slalom season title three times: in 2011, 2012, and 2018. This means she was the best giant slalom skier in the world for those seasons!
  • Overall, she won 19 World Cup races. These wins included 14 in giant slalom, 4 in super-G, and 1 in downhill skiing.
  • She also stood on the podium (finished in the top three) 49 times in World Cup races.

World Championship and Olympic Medals

Viktoria also earned medals at other major competitions:

  • At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, she won a bronze medal in the giant slalom.
  • She won two silver medals at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships. These were in the giant slalom in 2015 and 2019.
  • Before her senior career, she also won three gold medals at the World Junior Alpine Skiing Championships in 2008 and 2009.

Retirement from Skiing

Viktoria Rebensburg announced her retirement from alpine skiing on 1 September 2020. She decided to stop competing due to injuries that made it hard for her to return to her top form. She retired at the age of 30, after a very successful career.
