Discovering Dinosaurs in Vilamitjana
Vilamitjana is famous for an amazing discovery. A very important paleontological site was found here. A paleontological site is a place where scientists find old fossils. This site is called Les Serretes.
The Biggest Dinosaur in Catalonia
At Les Serretes, scientists found dinosaur remains. These remains belonged to a huge dinosaur. It was the second biggest hadrosaur ever found in Spain. It was also the largest hadrosaur found in Catalonia. Hadrosaurs were plant-eating dinosaurs. They are also known as "duck-billed dinosaurs" because of their wide, flat snouts.
Scientists identified this dinosaur as a type of Blasisaurus. Imagine finding bones from such a giant creature!
New Carnivore Dinosaurs
Besides the large hadrosaur, scientists also found something else exciting. They discovered two teeth from meat-eating dinosaurs. These teeth belonged to two new types of dinosaur species. This means that new kinds of carnivore dinosaurs once roamed this area.
