About Vince Flynn
His Early Life and School
Vince Flynn was one of seven children. His parents were Terry and Kathleen Flynn. He went to Saint Thomas Academy and finished in 1984. Later, he studied economics at the University of St. Thomas. He earned his degree in 1989.
His First Jobs
After college, Flynn started working for Kraft Foods. He helped with sales and marketing. In 1991, he decided to try something new. He wanted to become a pilot for the United States Marine Corps. But just one week before he was supposed to start training, he found out he couldn't join the flying program for health reasons.
Vince Flynn had dyslexia, which made reading and writing difficult. To get better, he made himself read and write every day. He was inspired by many famous writers. These included Leon Uris, Tom Clancy, and Ernest Hemingway.
Becoming a Writer
Because he loved reading so much, Flynn decided to write his own book. While working as a bartender, he finished his first novel, Term Limits. He even published it himself at first! Flynn said he got the idea for the book after reading about problems in government. He wondered what it would take to really change things.
A big publishing company, Pocket Books, later released Term Limits in 1998. It became a huge success and spent many weeks on The New York Times bestseller list. This means it was one of the most popular books in the country.
Flynn wrote many more popular books after that. His novels Transfer of Power (1999), The Third Option (2000), and Separation of Power (2001) also became New York Times bestsellers. Separation of Power even reached No. 7 on the list!
Most of Flynn's books, except for Term Limits, were about a brave secret agent named Mitch Rapp. This character became very famous. Flynn wrote many more bestsellers, including Executive Power (2003) and Memorial Day (2004). He signed deals for more books and even for movies based on his stories.
