Vincent Scotto's Life and Work
Vincent Scotto was born in Marseille, France, on April 21, 1874. His parents, Pasquale Scotto d'Aniello and Antonia Intartaglia, came from an island called Procida near Naples, Italy.
Vincent Scotto began his music career in Marseille in 1906. Later, he moved to Paris, the capital of France. He was incredibly busy, writing about 4,000 songs and 60 operettas! An operetta is like a short, light opera with spoken parts and songs.
He was good friends with Marcel Pagnol, a famous French filmmaker. Vincent Scotto wrote music for many of Pagnol's films. In total, he composed music for around 50 movies in the 1940s and 1950s. Sometimes, he even appeared in these movies as an actor!
In 1973, a TV film about his life was made. It was called La Vie rêvée de Vincent Scotto, which means The Dreamed Life of Vincent Scotto.
Vincent Scotto passed away in Paris on November 15, 1952, when he was 78 years old.
