A Stop on the Railway

In 1889, Virginia Mills became a stop on the Baltimore and Harrisburg Railway. This railway was important for moving people and goods. The train tracks were built close to a mill that was on the John Linn farm. They also passed by an old bridge, called a viaduct, that was built in 1838. This viaduct was part of an even older railway project known as the "Tapeworm Railroad."

A Place in History

Virginia Mills is also remembered because it was near the site of the 1863 Battle of Fairfield. This battle was a part of the American Civil War, a very important time in American history. Even though Virginia Mills is no longer a populated place, its history is connected to these significant events.
