About Vivien Blackett

Vivien Blackett was born in London. She studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths from 1974 to 1978. This is where she learned many art skills.

Early Exhibitions and Residencies

In 1985, Vivien Blackett had her first solo art show. It was held in Brick Lane in London. From 1986 to 1987, she was an artist-in-residence at the National Gallery in London. This is a very important role for an artist.

In 1992, her artworks were shown in the Women's Art exhibition. This show took place at New Hall in Cambridge. Also in 1992, she worked as an artist-in-residence at the Camden Arts Centre. This art center is located in north London.

Later Works and Inspiration

In 2007, Blackett created new art for another solo exhibition. This show was at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. She explored ideas from her earlier art, like her 1997 series of painted panels. This series was titled Above, below, within.

For her 2007 exhibition, Blackett also found ideas from old documents. She studied archive materials at the Wellcome Library. These materials covered many different topics. They included chemistry, cooking, and even witchcraft.

Her Art Collection

Some of Vivien Blackett's artwork is part of the British Council collection. This means her art is kept and shown by a well-known organization.
