This park was officially created on March 20, 2008. It covers an area of about 41 hectares (101 acres). The name "Vivigani Ardune" comes from two nearby natural areas. One is the Vivigani Sanctuary, a private protected area that borders the park. The other is the Ardune Range, which is a local geographical feature. The park was established under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972, which is a law in South Australia for protecting nature.
