Lucindale is a small town in the south-east of South Australia. It is about 345 kilometers (214 miles) south-east of Adelaide, the state capital. In 2006, about 301 people lived here. Lucindale is famous for its yearly South East Field Days. This big event brings over 26,000 visitors every March!

History of Lucindale

The town of Lucindale was officially created on January 25, 1877. It was named after Lady Jeannie Lucinda Musgrave. She was the wife of Anthony Musgrave, who was the Governor of South Australia at the time.

Lucindale was once a station on the Kingston-Naracoorte railway line. This railway line opened around the same time the town was founded. However, the railway line closed on November 28, 1987. It was then taken apart on September 15, 1991. A school was also started in Lucindale in 1878. The Post Office opened on May 1, 1877, but it was first known as Baker's Range for a few months. The wider area, called the locality of Lucindale, was officially recognized on December 3, 1998.

Today, Lucindale has important services for its residents. These include a health center and a licensed post office. There is also a newsagent and a service station.

Students in Lucindale can get their education from reception (like kindergarten) all the way to Year 12. This is provided by the Lucindale Area School.

Town Achievements

Lucindale has been recognized for its neatness and appearance. In 1994, it was named Australia's tidiest town. It was also a finalist for the award in 2006.

Community Events

On September 14, 2019, Lucindale hosted the triple j One Night Stand. This was a huge music event that brought more than 15,000 people to the town. The town also has an Australian Rules football team. They play in the Kowree-Naracoorte-Tatiara Football League.

Recent Events

In January 2021, a large bushfire happened near Lucindale. This fire affected over 14,000 hectares of land around the town. Sadly, at least four homes were damaged by the fire.
