Stewart Range is a small area in South Australia. It is located about 289 kilometers (180 miles) south-east of Adelaide. It is also about 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) west of Naracoorte. This area has had a few different names over time, including Stewarts and Tryon.

History of Stewart Range

How Stewart Range Got Its Name

Stewart Range started as a government town. It was first called Tryon on April 29, 1886. Later, in 1940, its name was changed to Stewarts.

In 1998, the boundaries for the area were set. It was given the name Stewart Range. This name comes from a nearby group of hills. In 2001, more land was added to the area.

Early Education

A school called "Stewart's Range" opened in 1885. It taught children in the area for many years. The school's name changed in 1941. It finally closed its doors in 1945.

The Railway Connection

A railway station named Stewarts opened in 1876. It was part of the Kingston-Naracoorte railway line. This line used a narrow track.

In 1957, the railway track was made wider. This allowed bigger trains to use it. However, the railway line eventually closed in 1987. The tracks were removed in 1991.
