Vladimir Nikolaevich Artemov is a famous former gymnast from Russia. He was born on December 7, 1964, in Vladimir, which was part of the Soviet Union at the time. Vladimir Artemov is known as one of the best gymnasts ever, especially on the parallel bars.

Olympic Games Success

Vladimir Artemov had an amazing performance at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. He won four gold medals there! These gold medals were for:

  • The all-around individual competition, where gymnasts compete on all different equipment.
  • The parallel bars, which was one of his strongest events.
  • The horizontal bar, another challenging event.
  • The team combined exercises, where he helped the Soviet Union win gold.

He also earned a silver medal at the 1988 Olympics for his performance in the floor exercise.

World Championship Medals

Artemov also achieved great success at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. He won gold medals on the parallel bars in 1983 and again in 1987. His skills on this equipment were truly outstanding.

He was part of the Soviet teams that won the team final gold medal three times: in 1985, 1987, and 1989. The Soviet team also took second place in 1983. Overall, Vladimir Artemov earned five silver medals and two bronze medals at the World Championships.

In 1988, Vladimir Artemov was recognized as one of the top ten athletes of the year in the Soviet Union. This shows how important and skilled he was in his sport.

Life After Gymnastics

After his incredible gymnastics career, Vladimir Artemov moved to the United States in 1990. He first settled in Pennsylvania. It's important to know that he is sometimes confused with another gymnast, Alexander Artemev, but they are not related. Today, Vladimir Artemov lives in San Antonio, Texas. He runs a gymnastics gym there with his wife, Natalia, helping new gymnasts learn and grow.
