Vladimir Yevgenyevich Krutov (Russian: Владимир Евгеньевич Крутов; 1 June 1960 – 6 June 2012) was a famous Russian ice hockey player. He was known as "The Tank" because of his strong playing style. Vladimir Krutov was a forward, playing as a left wing.
He was a key part of the legendary "KLM Line" in ice hockey. This line included Krutov, Igor Larionov, and Sergei Makarov. Many people consider him one of the best ice hockey wingers of the 1980s.

A Star for the Soviet Union Team
Vladimir Krutov was a very important player for the Soviet Union men's national ice hockey team in the 1980s. He helped his team win many big tournaments.
Olympic Games Success
Krutov won two gold medals at the Winter Olympic Games. These were in 1984 and 1988. He also earned a silver medal at the 1980 Olympics.
World Championships and Canada Cup
He also had great success at the Ice Hockey World Championships. Krutov won five gold medals (1981, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1989). He also took home one silver medal (1987) and one bronze medal (1985). In 1987, he was the top scorer at the World Championships. Krutov also helped the Soviet Union win the 1981 Canada Cup.
Club Career and NHL Experience
Vladimir Krutov played for HC CSKA Moscow from 1978 to 1989. This team was very strong in the Soviet Union.
Moving to the NHL
In 1989, Krutov was one of the first Soviet players to join the NHL. He played for the Vancouver Canucks. However, his time in the NHL was not very successful. He faced challenges like missing his home and having weight problems.
Playing in Europe
After one season in North America, Krutov left the NHL. He then played for several teams in Switzerland and Sweden. He played for Zürcher SC, Östersunds IK, and Brunflo IK. He retired from playing in 1996.
Later Life and Legacy
After retiring as a player, Vladimir Krutov became a coach. His son, Alexei Krutov, also became a professional hockey player. Alexei played from 1999 to 2017.
In 2010, Vladimir Krutov was honored for his amazing career. He was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame. This is a special place for the best ice hockey players in history.
Vladimir Krutov passed away in Moscow on 6 June 2012. He was 52 years old.
