Vladimir Veličković (Serbian Cyrillic: Владимир Величковић) was a famous Serbian painter. He was born on August 11, 1935. He spent most of his adult life living in Paris, France. His paintings are known for their powerful and dramatic style. He taught many young artists during his long career.

Becoming a Painter: Vladimir Veličković's Early Life
Vladimir Veličković studied at the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade. He graduated from there. From 1963 to 1966, he worked as an assistant. He helped in a special art workshop run by Krsto Hegedušić in Zagreb.
Moving to Paris and Gaining Fame
In 1965, Veličković won an award at the Biennale in Paris. The Biennale is a big art exhibition that happens every two years. He liked Paris so much that he moved there the next year. In 1967, he became very well-known. This happened after he had an art show at the Galerie du Dragon in Paris. This show made him a top artist in the "Narrative Figuration" art style. This style tells stories through pictures.
Teaching and Awards
In 1983, Vladimir Veličković became a professor. He taught at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. This is a very famous art school. He taught there until the year 2000. In 1985, he became a member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. This is a group of the best scientists and artists in Serbia. He also received an honorary degree from the University of Kragujevac.
Veličković was given a very high French award. It is called the Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. This award honors people who have done great things in art and culture. His paintings have been shown in many countries. You could see his art in Europe and Americas since 1951.
Joining the Académie des Beaux-Arts
On December 7, 2005, he became a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts. This is another very important French art institution. He held seat number 7 in section I.
